KUPIKUPI Terms of Use
These terms are an agreement between you and KUPI. You accept them when you tap Agree and continue in the app, and by using KUPI. Please read them together with the Privacy Policy and the Content Policy. A venue that signs up as a host also accepts the Host and Venue Agreement.
Who can use KUPI
You must be 18 or older. You may have one account, and the details you give must be true. You sign in with your phone number, so keep your phone and your sign in codes safe. You are responsible for your account and for what you post. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or the Content Policy, and you can delete your own account at any time from your Profile.
What KUPI is, and what it is not
KUPI is a discovery app. It shows events, venues, places and stays that hosts, owners and the KUPI team list, so you can decide where to go. KUPI is not the organiser of any event, and is not the owner or operator of any venue, safari lodge, resort, BnB or other place shown in the app. KUPI does not sell tickets, take bookings or run what it lists.
Details such as times, prices, photos, dress codes and what is on offer come from hosts and owners and can be wrong or can change. Check with the venue before you go. KUPI is not responsible for what happens at a venue, an event or a stay, or on the way there and back, including injury, loss, theft, harassment or damage. Use your own judgement, look after your friends, drink responsibly and never drive after drinking.
upHEATs and rankings
An upHEAT is a member saying an event is worth going to. It shows interest. It is not a count of the people who are at the event, and it is not a promise about the crowd, the atmosphere or safety. Rankings come from upHEATs and other signals and can be adjusted by the KUPI team. Promoted events are always labelled Promoted. Each plan has a daily limit on upHEATs, and giving and removing upHEATs does not get round it.
Live Now and Live Today
Live Now and Live Today list events that are on now or today, as the host or the KUPI team entered them. An event can start late, change or be cancelled without notice. Till late means no end time was set. Check with the venue before you travel.
Heat maps
The heat map shows combined areas where several members are active, using location that members share while the app is open. It is approximate and can be behind, and it never shows one person. It is a guide, not a promise that a place is busy, quiet or safe.
Safaris and resorts
Safari and resort listings are written by the owners. KUPI does not inspect, rate or endorse them, and does not take bookings or payments for them. Contact the owner directly and check prices, dates, availability, cancellation rules and safety before you book. Outdoor and wildlife activities carry real risk, and you take part at your own risk.
BnBs and stays
BnB listings are written by the owners. KUPI is not a party to any booking or stay, does not take payments for stays, and does not check the property or the people in it. Agree the details, the price and the rules with the owner directly, and take the care you would take with any stranger's home.
Pull Up and Chill zones
Pull Up and Chill zones are places to relax that the KUPI team lists. The same rules apply as for any other venue: details can change, and KUPI is not responsible for what happens there.
Gugu, the assistant
Gugu is an AI assistant that suggests events and places from the information KUPI holds. Gugu can be wrong, can miss things, and is not advice of any kind. Gugu may give more weight to events from paying hosts when they fit your question equally well. Check details with the venue. What you write to Gugu is handled as set out in the Privacy Policy.
KUPS
KUPS are reward points inside KUPI. They are not money, are not a currency, are not a security, and have no value outside KUPI. They cannot be withdrawn as cash, sold, traded or passed to another person.
- Earning: KUPS are earned for activity that KUPI decides qualifies, within daily limits. Only members on a paid plan earn them, and venue hosts do not.
- The team's discretion: KUPI decides whether an action earns KUPS and how many. At its discretion it can reject, reverse or adjust KUPS, without notice, where they came from abuse, fake activity, duplicate accounts or a mistake.
- Freezing and deductions: KUPI can freeze a balance while it checks a concern, and can deduct KUPS that were gained wrongly. A frozen balance cannot be used until the check is done.
- Rewards: KUPS can be requested for vouchers, event tickets, drinks or dinner above a minimum balance. Rewards are subject to availability, and KUPI decides which rewards are offered and when. Each request is held for 3 business days, then reviewed and fulfilled by the KUPI team.
- Partner rewards: A voucher or ticket is issued by the venue or partner and follows their rules and expiry date. KUPS spent on a reward are not given back if it expires or is not used, unless KUPI decides otherwise.
- Changes: KUPI may change how KUPS work, or end the programme, and will tell you in the app.
Squads
Squads are small groups for meeting people at public events. Only Black Badge Plus members start or join one. You must be 18 or older. Members are shown by nickname, and the person who started the group decides who joins. In a Blind Date, usernames show only once everyone is at the venue.
KUPI does not check the people in a Squad and does not supervise any meeting. KUPI is not responsible for what happens between members, in a chat, or when members meet offline. Meet in public places, tell a friend where you are going, never send money to anyone you meet through KUPI, and do not share your phone number or home address. Leave if you feel unsafe, and report anyone who worries you. Squad chats are deleted 24 hours after the event ends, and reported messages can be kept for up to 30 days for review.
Plans and payments
KUPI has two paid plans, Premium Access at $4.99 a month with a 7 day free trial, and Black Badge Plus at $9.99 a month. They are billed monthly by the App Store or Google Play. A plan renews automatically until you cancel it in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings, at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. If you upgrade from Premium Access to Black Badge Plus part way through a month, the store charges the difference for the days left. Deleting your KUPI account does not cancel a store subscription. What each plan includes is shown in the app and can change with notice.
Hosts and advertising
A venue signs up as a host on the KUPI web portal, accepts the Host and Venue Agreement, and is approved by the KUPI team after a phone check. An approved host can buy the Event Golden Badge ($20 a month), which includes 2 events and 1 BnB a month (more can be arranged with the KUPI team), and promoted placements ($20 a week). A placement is for the dates bought, is labelled Promoted, and does not guarantee attendance. Host payments are made on the web portal, not in the app. KUPI can remove an event or a host that breaks the rules.
Your content
You keep ownership of what you post. You give KUPI permission to show it in the app and to keep it as the Privacy Policy describes. Only post what you have the right to share, and follow the Content Policy. Photos are reviewed before they appear, and we may remove anything that breaks the rules.
Location
KUPI uses your location only while the app is open, as the Privacy Policy explains. You can turn it off in your phone settings, but the heat map and the I am here check in will not work without it.
Law enforcement and legal requests
KUPI works with the police and other authorities. We give information about an account, a chat or a post only when we receive a valid court order or another lawful request, when the law requires it, or when it is needed to protect someone from serious harm. We may keep reports, messages and records that are needed for this, even after a chat would normally be deleted. If you break the law through KUPI, we may suspend your account.
Our responsibility
KUPI is provided as it is. We work to keep it running and accurate, but we cannot promise that it will always be available or free of mistakes. To the extent the law allows, KUPI is not liable for loss that comes from events, venues, hosts, owners, other members, things outside our control, or your use of information in the app. Nothing in these terms limits a responsibility that the law does not allow to be limited.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When a change matters, the app will ask you to read and accept the new version before you carry on. If you do not accept, you can stop using KUPI and delete your account.
